Aamir Khan’s Peepli Live Gets International Recognition

Aamir’s Peepli Live is already taking the world by surprise even before its release. Aamir Khan’s forthcoming venture has already bagged a major worldwide recognition. The movie has been dubbed the Best First Feature Film at the 31st Durban International Film Festival in South Africa.

The film is a political satire and has been directed by debutante director Anusha Rizvi. There are no big names in the movie; in fact, the characters have been played by fresh faces who have never appeared on the silver screen. The movie explores with wit the social and political consequences that occur after famers’ suicides.

The jury of the Durban International Film Festival that was held from July 22 – August 1 could not stop praising the movie. Aamir Khan Productions was also extremely elated at the recognition especially since this is Rizvi’s maiden directorial venture.

Peepli Live is a story about a village named Peepli and its impecunious farmers – Natha played by Omkar Das Manikpuri and Budhia played by Raghubir Yadav. Just when they are about to lose their land because of their heavy debts, a politician suggests that they should commit suicide to get the attention of the government. The movie has been crafted in a way that the audience will love how politics has been mixed with enchanting wit and humour. The film also has actors like Naseruddin Shah, Malaika Shenoy, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa, Farrukh Jaffer, Vishal O. Sharma, Aamir Bashir, Sitaram Panchal and Yugal Kishore.

Peepli Live is going to release on August 13. This is Aamir Khan’s fourth film as a producer after Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India (2001), Taare Zameen Par(2007) and Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na(2008).
