The Teej festival begins from today i.e. 12th August, 2010. This festival marks prosperity and greenery.This festival is mostly observed by the women praying for a good harvest and cherishing the end of summer season. Teej is celebrated in the Shravan month. During this season, green coloured dresses are worn by women with green bangles. A very unique thing about this celebration is that the women sway in splendidly decorated swings suspended from trees. Happy songs are sung to praise Mother Nature so that prosperity prevails in the households.
There is a belief that during this season, Lord Shiva’s wife Goddess Parvati celebrated her matrimony with the Lord Shiva.
Married women fast and pray in this season and even unmarried girls fast praying for a good husband.
